Green with envy!

I haven't had much success with my broad beans, as they attracted blackfly. The reason for that apparently is due to the top 3-4 inches being the sweetest and reason for their appearance! Next year, I shall try again and remove the top part.

This is how they should look! A neighbouring plotter - Coleman, was very generous and shared his excess crop. Funny thing is...I never once saw him pick the top few inches off his beans!

When I shelled them, the insides looked like foam lined cushions! I then skinned the beans and they were very sweet and creamy once cooked. I think I have been converted to broad beans. It's probably only about the 5th time I have eaten them in my life! Thanks Coleman.

Beet that!

I'm sooo excited. These are 2 small beetroots of many that I am growing. I've not grown beetroots before, so I am really chuffed that they are doing well.

Not only that, I am also chuffed that I have been able to add a photo to my blog for the first time since I have had my new computer.

My blog looks very different to how it was a couple of months ago. That shows me just how sick it was and I was using the tool bar 'blind'! It wasn't working, so I guessed where the icons were and worked with them for almost a year!

There have been some other produce that HELLBOY has harvested on plot 137.... potatoes and onions. I dug some potatoes - Marfona variety and some Desiree potatoes too. Very tasty.

I also pulled a carrot to see how they were growing...not too bad for a first timer. He has done well.

I'm looking forward to digging more produce in the coming weeks.

No 1 Seed!

I'm really gutted about my pc. It's been over 3 weeks now that I have been without it and I am totally lost! However, it's given me more time to take care of my seeds and plants that are really growing in this warm and sunny weather.

The raspberries are ripening - although quite small. Beetroot is flourishing, beans are flowering, broad beans are podding as are the peas. It's so exciting to watch produce develop.

The slugs have been a nightmare and have eaten several of my new shoots. Grrr. Only 2 of 5 seeds germinated of my Italian Valentino Watermelon and they ate those. Peas, tomatoes and butternut squash too. I tried all methods to prevent them from climbing the staging - rubbing vaseline around the legs, sprinkling salt around the bottom of the legs, on the ground - nuffing! That didn't stop them. I removed several by hand but they kept on coming back!

No photos to show you as I am not using my own pc so I don't have any. That is what I find frustrating - not having my photos. Hopefully in another week, I shall be able to have it all back again.
