Pulling Power!

We've been busy at the allotment... pulling vegetables.

First the beetroots and runner beans....



... and then some carrots...

You'll never get a fresher carrot than these....straight out of the ground, washed and eaten! Eden likes raw carrot, so is the first to taste them. Ethan only likes cooked carrots, so he will eat his for dinner.

A very serious business this carrot pulling!

Simply Red!

There were few tomato plants left after the snails had eaten many but these variety are Berry. This is the first to ripen and the Cherry variety are on the turn too - berry nice!

I'm looking forward to harvesting my parsnips but I believe they won't be too big. Still, I don't want them to be tough, so baby ones will taste sweeter.

There's still a lot of clearing of weeds and brambles to be done at the allotment. It's an ongoing project.

Black Beauties!

It's that time of the year again.....blackberry picking. It's a nostalgic thing for me. When I was a child, it was my favorite thing to do in the summer.

I've picked rather a lot already from my garden, on my allotment and from a neighbour's front garden - with permission, of course!

I'm going to be baking tomorrow... Blackberry and Apple slice and cupcakes for my little family. We are having a BBQ get together at my sister in law's at the weekend and I can't wait to see all of my grandchildren again.

What on earth is this?!

This alien plant is growing through the fence from a neighbouring plot and I am wondering what it is! The leaves look like a type of courgette/marrow plant and the fruit looks like something only martians would eat! LOL. Where's Alan Titchmarsh when I need him!

However, I decided to keep my eye on it and if it turns into a triffid....come look for me on Plot 138!!

Shellshocked!

My peas are now harvested and tasted delicious. I was a little surprised to find that the shells were a 'plum' colour. Given that these are a kind of rare variety and cannot be bought, I guess they are pretty unique. I have saved some of the peas to plant them next year.



They were given to me last year by one of my neighbouring plotters - Alf.

The peas inside were actually green! Strange!

Carrot tops & bottoms!

I had to laugh when I dug up carrots on HELLBOY's plot recently. This lovely bunch were perfect - just like the ones you would see in Tesco! I washed one and ate it and the taste was divine! More flavoursome than the prepacked ones I buy.

Then I unearthed this specimen! It looks something like the Ood in Doctor Who!!! I don't know whether to eat it or send it to vegetable heaven! Is there a museum for this kind of thing?

As for the potatoes...they did well and some were even bigger than 'bakers' in the supermarket. He planted 'Marfona' and 'Desiree' varieties. The Desiree batch aren't as big but they weren't planted from 'seed'. Not sure if that would make a difference. However, they are very nice to eat and I shall dig the last lot up this week.

Painted Ladies!

I was at my allotment a while ago when these flowers on my neighbour Alf's plot were in full bloom. They were attracting 'Painted Lady' butterflies!

I love nature. Birds, bees, insects, creatures...I have met some lovely 'friends' on my allotment.

I was visiting my mum this week and in the grounds where she lives, are squirrels and a variety of birds. This woodpecker flew down for a drink and I managed to get a shot of him before he flew off again.

I stayed at my sister's whilst she was on holiday. Carol loves her garden and I took some photos of her flowers that had bloomed since she had gone and sent them to her via email.

This is my favourite of them all....a beautiful pink dahlia.

Her lillies opened the day I arrived.
